One of the most effective ways of communicating in social media is blogging. It is the fastest and easiest way of self-publishing. You don’t need an editor, photographer or publisher. You are in control of every aspect of communicating your ideas. You are the one featuring stories, taking photos, visiting places and interviewing people. If the blogs you write up are interesting, you start developing an audience. You address this audience when you write your stories. Just like a writer is responsible for his readers, a blogger becomes responsible for his followers.
Although blogging is voluntary, it can take up as much time as a full-time job. As one plays multiple roles for maintaining and updating the blog, the blogger has to possess certain skills. There are very many people who enjoy writing a personal blog on their hobbies or profession but only a few of them can attract our attention and make us routinely visit them.
One of these successful blogs is Café Fernando, a food blog that takes you to the world of a cooking enthusiast, who masters not only in preparing {mosimage}delicious dishes but also in presenting them beautifully with the touch of professional photography. Café Fernando is this year’s winner of Saveur magazine’s best food blog in the category of best original baking and desserts recipe with his famous Dolce and Gabbana Lace Brownies. The recipe tells it about the blogger’s pursuit for excellence in the process of creating new culinary designs.
The man behind this original cake design is Cenk Sonmezsoy, an Istanbulite who started his culinary journey in San Francisco where he studied and lived for a few years after graduating from college. Cenk has a background in advertising which explains the professional yet intimate layout of his blog. Like other food bloggers, he gives detailed explanation on the ingredients, preparation steps and tips to bake, serve and store the dishes. He also features stories on his culinary projects where you can witness his true enthusiasm and drive for creativity.
From the rich variety of ice creams, desserts and cakes, you can easily tell that Cenk has a sweet tooth. I found out about Café Fernando at an international party where women with different professional backgrounds were discussing the wonderful delicacies they prepare thanks to the blog. As a food enthusiast myself, I tried a few of the recipes. I first baked the Chocolate Bundt Cake, which became a big hit in our house. My husband enjoyed having one or two slices for breakfast for almost a week. Then, I had family visiting from overseas, I baked Golden Gold and Moist Carror Cake. It was truly moist and golden in color. Everyone loved it. The chez d’oeuvre of all was L’Orange. It was one of the most difficult recipes with a lot of different ingredients and processes that I needed to go through. It took me almost 2 hours to prepare. However, it was worth for every effort. We all had a satisfied smile after the very first bite.
The blog’s name Café Fernando shows Cenk’s admiration for the American TV show The Golden Girls. One of the main character Rose’s one-eyed teddy bear was called Fernando.
Since the launch of Café Fernando in 2006, the blog received prestigious awards and attracted attention of Turkish and international press. You can find the list of various articles featuring the blog’s success.
What makes Cenk’s blog so unique?
A combination for a few things…
Passion for food and cooking – a must for a successful food blog;
Colorful storytelling in Turkish and English;
Beautiful visuals – professionally taken photos at every stage of food preparation;
Patisserie quality baking in your home’s comfort – although certain recipes could be challenging in terms of preparation or design, the blog inspires you to be culinary pro. This is a unique quality that Café Fernando delivers for his readers.
