Due to general elections on November 1, Daylight Saving Time (DST, also called summer time) is extended until Sunday, November 8, by a Council Of Ministers Decision. The situation can also be interpreted as two weeks delay on the ending of DST for 2015.
In normal conditions Turkey is synchronized with European countries as regard to DST change which has been applied on October 25 for this year.
However, aiming at enough daylight and safer conditions for polling stations, Council Of Ministers decided that Daylight Saving Time will be ended two weeks later than normal this year and clocks will be set back one hour from 4:00 to 3:00 local time on Sunday, November 8, 2015, instead of on October 25, 2015.
TIME ZONE OF TURKEY
Turkey’s time is Eastern European Time (EET).
Standard (winter) time zone is UTC/GMT +2 hours,
DST (summer time) zone is UTC/GMT +3 hours.
Taking the above decision into consideration, Turkey will be remaining in the (summer time) zone of UTC/GMT +3 hours between October 25 and November 8, during which period European Countries have already been switched back to standard time zone on October 25, 2015.
In European and other countries in which DST is ended on October 25, it is important for individuals and companies who are in communication with Turkey to take this extra an hour time-lag into consideration during the above said two weeks period. Such as;
- State offices will be remain open between 08:30-17:00, but/and an hour earlier than they would be in normal times in comparison with your country’s time.
- Private sector offices you are in communication with will be open and closed an hour earlier than they would be in normal times in comparison with your country’s time.
- For example, if you are in Central Europe Time CET, such as in Spain and Germany, there will be 2 hours gap with Turkey (2 hours behind Turkey) instead of 1 hour, or if you are in the same time zone (East European Time/EET), such as in Greece, Israel, there will be an hour gap (1 hour behind Turkey) instead of being at the same time.
- In Turkey, also computers, cell phones, androids and some other electronic devices that are updated automatically will be put forward one hour manually.
Note: DTS will be ending on November 1, in USA and Canada.
